Ebenezer Bible College and Seminary has been in existence for 82 years now. Through the years, she has produced over a thousand full time pastors and lady ministers who are now actively engaged in the ministry of winning souls for Christ.
It is a theological institution of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches of the Philippines, one of the most successful mission work of the Christian and Missionary Alliance of America. Peacefully seated facing the Basilan strait, this thirteen hectare campus is home to century old acacia trees who are witnesses of God's faithfulness to the verse that the school holds “ Hitherto hath the Lord Helped us”. I Samuel 7:12.
About seven years ago, the last American missionaries who served as faculty were pulled out by the U.S. government at the height of the Burnham abduction. A year later, the C&MA Headquarters in Manila was closed due to subsequent recommendations that the local “Alliance ” is already self-sufficient. Although, it did not completely stop dollar financial aid, the closure of the headquarters challenged the CAMACOP to stand on its own. This was equally challenging to its bible schools, which includes Ebenezer, whose chief source of funding for school operations was the US aid. The Americans left Ebenezer with golden aged facilities. A heritage worth preserving, and a name “Ebenezer” that is a treasure in itself.
Today, Ebenezer still holds the title as the premier CAMACOP Bible School fueled by its mission and vision to produce servant leaders in Asia and beyond. A conservative number of students coming from different parts of the Philippines enroll each year, with a total matriculation that is way short to cover personnel and maintenance costs. But the faithful Lord is true to the school verse. Sixty percent of the school's annual budget comes from donations of partner ministries and individuals based in the Philippines and abroad. These funds barely keep us going . However, the present administration sensed the urgency to bring the school to the next level of growth that is much more to mere existing and surviving. Like a ship, Ebenezer is thankful for the daily provision. However, securing her seaworthiness is the job description of her crew, who are accountable to the “Captain”. Today, we sail and tomorrow we will still do, that is our main business. But we need to be ready for the storms ahead. Presently, we feel the turbulence; the high cost of asset maintenance is rocking the boat. Faculty houses, dorms, and buildings are dilapidated and dilapidating. The huge land area is a challenge to keep up. A big chunk of the school's budget is eaten by this monster problem, and with the rising prices, it continues to grow bigger each day of the year. In order to arrest this seemingly undefeatable foe, we discovered the strength within our reach. The naturally cultured tranquil environment and the beach are rich resources waiting to be maximally utilized.
At present, the school enjoys the natural return of the investment that was left by the Americans. Ebenezer is the favorite venue of fellowships and church activities of Evangelical churches in Zamboanga. Other schools in the city find this secluded yet accessible place conducive for seminars and retreats. It is an alternative to a more private beach outing and camping. By word of mouth, visitors can not help but spread their great discovery that a place like Ebenezer exists.
With the growing number and expanding scope of regulars, the meagerness of facilities and amenities and the receding shoreline are obstacles in generating a definite source of income that may help financially stabilize the institution in the future. We are challenged by the fact that Ebenezer is God's property and we have a stewardship responsibility to every party that interfaces with the ministry. The present administration is preparing Ebenezer for the future and we encourage you to join us in building a long term sustainable value- a value that will outlive us.
For His Kingdom,
